Yikes! Sound and Vision is exactly the wrong thing to recommend. Martin asked for intro without being overwhelmed. S+V is a beautiful collection that is perfect for a long time Bowie fan but it can be a bit much for the uninitiated. It has a lot of remixes or different takes that would have less meaning for those not familiar with his work. The Best of Bowie or even the older Changesbowie would be better places to start with his music. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is also a great album as it shows some off the 'album as story' concept that Bowie often used.

For concerts I love the Glass Spider tour. It was one of those tours that was so expensive it lost money and had to stop but it was beautiful.

For acting Labyrinth is probably his best but my favorite film he was in was Absolute Beginners.

For historical context there was a great BBC documentary called David Bowie and the Story of Ziggy Stardust. It's on youtube.

Yeah, I'm a fan. He was really important to me growing up.
