Hmm... I know I'm commenting on an old episode, but I wonder - don't the priests make it clear that they're quoting Jesus ("so yeah, Jesus did the thing and said the following"), as opposed to "channeling" him, as it were? This would explain how they can simply say it in first person without being that affected. I know they do it in Polish Catholic tradition, I honestly have no idea how it works in the Ukrainian one.
