Ok,catching up on podcasts, and hear this gem today.

(please queue the music, Abe's going to talk about Yes)

So Maltese Falcon, becomes a parody of itself because it became the source material that was was reused over and over like mouthwash flowing from cheek to cheek until it was no longer useful. This is exactly how I feel about 90125. As someone who came to enjoy Yes later in life this album has always been problematic as it sounds like every other 80's albums, and believe me i have heard most of them. Then one day i looked at the date of publication and realized its not a cannibalistic exercise singing about its grief, its the fountainhead that was ripped to bits, its gems scattered into mainstream music, just like the beloved tails from topographic oceans. Nice parallelism!

I totally get the Maltese Falcon thing. It reminds me of an entry at TV Tropes: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SeinfeldIsUnfunny
